Halloween is our all-time favourite holiday here at Dig It®! There’s candy, dressing up, parties, and scares, so what’s not to love?
Here are a few of our favourite party treats for your Monster Bash.
These are spookily easy to “make”! Like frankenstein’s monster, it’s more a matter of assembly than baking, but you’ll look like a superstar baker.
- Chocolate wafer cookies (available in most supermarkets)
- Icing google eyes (in the baking section)
- Mini Marshmallows
- Buttercream icing PLUS icing sugar to thicken
- Food colouring
Mix your home-made or store-bought icing with enough icing sugar to make it about as thick as play clay. Split the icing into two bowls and add Halloween coloured food dye to make bright green and orange colours.
Use your imagination to make silly, scary and goofy little monsters! You can cut mini marshmallows with scissors to make teeth or eyes on stalks, then add a little dab of icing to “glue” them and the google eyes onto your cookies.
Another easy way to “fake bake” these cookies is to use store bought sugar cookie dough!
Roll the dough into finger shapes and use the back of a fork handle to make a depression where the fingernail would sit, add some knuckles with the tines of the fork!
Glue a slivered almond onto each nail indent with some seedless red jam and bake. We like to make the jam even more “bloody” by adding some food dye.
Skeletal Veggies and Dip
Cauliflower, which always reminds us of brains, is a hilarious way to make Halloween healthy. First, line a serving tray with lettuce. Use a large head of cauliflower and break the florets into small, bite-size pieces. Then arrange them onto your serving dish to look like a skull. Use grape tomatoes as eyes, and cucumber carved into teeth to make the jaw!
If you’re feeling really ambitious (we weren’t for this pic) you can arrange pepper slices to look like ribs and bones, then fill the edges of your serving tray with other healthy veggies. Add a side of low-fat dip (maybe a little food colouring can make this creepy too) and kids will be begging to eat their veggies!
Happy Halloween from the gang at Dig It®
